Hand in Hand, Working Together
The YMCA partners with parents and other caregivers, working together to help children grow healthy, happy and strong. The
YMCA is committed to providing safe, affordable, high quality care to the families in our community.
Enthusiastic and Professional Staff
YMCA staff are trained individuals with interests in children and their welfare. Most are professional educators or
students pursuing their degrees in education. Each preschool staff team is comprised of individuals with unique talents and
interest in working with preschool children. Children benefit from this diversity.
All YMCA staff complete extensive training. Training includes First Aid and CPR, behavior guidance, working with specific
age groups, curriculum and learning environment. All staff go through a screening process before being hired. The YMCA is
dedicated to the care, safety and well-being of each child.
Creative Curriculum
Creative Curriculum is a comprehensive curriculum that creates a vision of what an age appropriate program looks like and
provides a framework for making decisions about how to achieve that vision. Curriculum puts the pieces of developmentally
appropriate practice together and provides a way to meet YMCA standards.
Focus on Character Development
The YMCA is challenging people, especially children, to accept and demonstrate positive values. The following four values
are emphasized in all YMCA programs including preschool programs: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Through a
variety of activities and the modeling of these values, the YMCA continues to meet the needs of our ever-changing
community.
Special Needs Statement
In order for the YMCA to provide the best experience for your child, we ask that you consult with the Center Director
regarding any special needs required by your child prior to registration. We will assess the support needed and discuss with
you the benefits of the programs or the alternate available. In addition, there are certain medical treatments and
procedures that our staff cannot legally perform because they are not qualified and trained to do so. Children with special
needs will be evaluated on an individual basis. We will make an attempt to serve all children.
Quality
The YMCA of North Port Child Development Center follows a quality checklist provided by the YMCA of the USA. This checklist
represents the highest standards from across the country and exceed the state licensing standards. In addition, YMCA
Preschool Programs are implementing the National Association for the Education of Young Children Standards.
YMCA Mission
To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
Registration and Enrollment
Because of the number of children and parents interested in YMCA Programs, advanced registration is necessary to secure a
childs participation. Because space is extremely limited, early registration is recommended.
Financial Assistance
The YMCA of North Port is committed to turning no one away due to an inability to pay the stated fees. Based on available
contributed resources, the YMCA provides financial assistance to those in need that wish to participate in YMCA membership
and programs. Those interested in applying for YMCA financial assistance should contact the YMCA to receive an application
form and additional information.
Volunteer Opportunities
There are many ways to get involved with the YMCA, and volunteering at YMCA Programs benefits everyone. A volunteers task
may be to give assistance, lead a game, or share a talent. The benefits are to see young minds develop, to see childrens
self-esteem increase and to feel good about themselves. Contact the YMCA to find out how you can volunteer at the YMCA Child
Development Center.
Enrollment Checklist
To meet state licensing requirements and to ensure a safe program for all YMCA preschool participants, the following
